It was just as windy and sunny as it is today. I had been amped for the Ron Paul Rally for several weeks and Sunday (the 26th) was the day. We packed lunches and our two Kelty kid carrier backpacks and headed over to the Marietta Square after church, with Ron Paul signs in tow.
I have mentioned it a few times here that I am a (somewhat passionate) Ron Paul supporter. And with Super Tuesday coming up, I will make a little plug for my main man.
If you are of the conservative and/or libertarian persuasion, or independent, or even liberal and unsure, or unhappy with the current state of our nation, I ask that you take a moment and watch this, this, this, this, and this.
For me, the status quo is just not an option, whether "Republican" or "Democrat". I want a man who will adhere to the Constitutional principles upon which our nation was founded, which results in true personal, financial and national liberty, ends these un-winnable Wars (including the drug war), ends the Fed and restores our monetary system (among MANY other things).
Now, there are a lot of people who like Ron Paul, from very conservative folks who are unhappy with the GOP establishment, to the very "fringe" folks (read: pot-smokin' hippies, 9/11 Truthers, etc) who might even turn those conservative folks away. When you start talking about the government getting out of the regulation of moral and social issues, you might also mean ending the costly "war on drugs", among other things. There are very good reasons for ending the drug war, and I support the belief that it is a gross misuse and abuse of taxpayer dollars. However, when we walked into the park last Sunday, and the most prolific symbol I saw being waved about was a big fat marijuana leaf, well, I was a little frustrated.
I've already debated this issue hotly with my fellow Paul supporters on Facebook after the rally, once it came out that we were not the only ones a bit frustrated that the "Legalize It" folks seemed to dominate the rally. See, I have no problem with that initiative on its own. The thing that frustrated me the most was that the presence of this message was so heavy that it made it seem that this was central to Dr. Paul's message to those white collar, white upper-middle class suburban Atlantans who were driving around the Square, seeing the rally going on. For many folks, the hope was that Dr. Paul's message would be heard by those curious about his message and that minds would be changed. Instead, I am (along with others) afraid that they may have gotten the wrong message about what Dr. Paul stands for. Yes, he stands for smaller government and personal liberty, however if and when this nation goes down in flames, it won't matter if you can legally smoke pot or not... we need his financial and economic policies implemented NOW, and that is what I think will appeal to the masses - a real, viable, peaceful and responsible solution that will turn America around.
But, anyway... all in all, the rally was good. I would have loved to hear more folks speak about Dr. Paul's position on the issues, versus some of the cheesy music they had going. T-MOT (the Minister of Truth) was there though, playing some good Jimi Hendrix tunes with his band the Axis Experience ... that was cool. :)
More than anything it was great to see the turnout in support of the only candidate with a real plan to save this nation... if you don't know about him yet, you ought to find out!!
