treasures

Just for poops and giggles, here are a few items I have thrifted or yard sale-d or flea marketed in the last couple of weeks. Many items are listed for sale in my vintage shop.

Some of this stuff I found in Waynesville, North Carolina during our visit there this past weekend. We walked into a shop that was closing and the shop owner's niece had some items from her personal collection up for sale. So glad we walked in! :)

Enjoy!
this is mine! going up on my wall.

At the moment, I'm sitting on the couch, having just poured a glass of wine, thinking about hitting the sack, and I realize that I better post up something before tomorrow begins, because it might be a few more days before I get the chance to write again. I suppose I don't have anything overly specific to share, but it's been an interesting few days I guess... and the rest of the week ought to be busy and fun to boot.

A few updates since last week:

  • Jason had a job interview yesterday... it wasn't really a classic job interview... it was more of an initial vetting for him to become an insurance agent with American Family Insurance. We are looking at this as a possible career path for him and so we've decided to push on the door. He wouldn't begin training until March if he is selected to begin the process. We still need immediate employment... That is something Jason is still seeking out both with American Family and possibly a side job.
  • God has been providing for us. Over the weekend we were blessed with some money to buy groceries. We were able to donate to our church's food pantry many unused jars of baby food and cereal and bring home many other items that we needed. Between WIC, donations and food pantries we are doing okay on groceries. I also have a meal plan put together for the next couple of weeks and I have been able to calculate the cost of all the ingredients that we can afford. I will share this list with you all and the recipes I will make from it. Maybe it will help you all too when you find yourselves in a bind!
  • Over the next couple days I will be working on a groom's cake for Apron Strings Cakery and earning some money for it. This hopefully will be a lasting relationship where I can help her grow her business and earn some money on the side. Since I am currently not "doing cakes" (I used to have my own business) it helps to keep my skills up and be able to help my family at the same time. I will post some pictures of the cake as I am working on it and the end result!
  • To top it all off, sweet Noah's 1st birthday party is coming up this Sunday! (his birthday is the 19th). I haven't really had the money or time to work on his party but I plan to make him a sweet little cake, along with maybe a couple other desserts, make some pretty banners and paper decorations but overall, keep it simple. I don't have any other option than that! I'm excited, but not too excited... my baby is getting TOO big! :( I'll share his birth story with you all on his birthday along with some great pictures of his birth. :)
  • Dakota's birthday is the 20th (yes, Noah and Dakota are almost ten years apart to the DAY), and my Mom and I are planning a fun Halloween/birthday party for him at her house. October is SUCH a busy month!
  • I've been shopping a lot lately looking for new inventory for my shop. I plan to issue a promo code sometime in the next week so stay tuned! Here are a few sneak peaks at some of the items I've picked up. Forgive the profuse number (and not so great) of pics of me, I am the only model I have!

since Saturday...

A little recap of the last few days is in order. We had a very interesting weekend...

Saturday morning started off rather sweetly. We don't really have a post office nearby, so the local Mom and Pop pharmacy in downtown Woodstock, called Woodstock Pharmacy, serves as my post office for shipping all the fun vintage stuff from my etsy shop. The cool thing for me is that the shared parking lot is behind the row of downtown stores, and since I enter and exit the back door, I have a good excuse to venture across the parking lot to the little itty bitty thrift store in the basement of the Woodstock United Methodist Church, which is only open on Saturdays. Last week I had to shop something on Thursday, and on the one time per month that they're open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, I found them. And I found a TON of stuff for NOTHING! It was like a gold mine... we're talking vintage sewing patterns for $.25 each, vintage linens and clothing for not more than a dollar... super awesome, and run by some super nice old ladies who really didn't realize that the old stuff they have was of value to me. So this Saturday, I'd convinced the hubby to let me leave the kids at home while I stepped out to mail my package... and the doors were open to the thrift store, so I took advantage of the time I had and went shopping. Among some of the veerry interesting finds was a Kodak Instamatic camera in perfect condition, still new in box, and an antique tea set that after some investigation I found was worth significantly more than what they asked for it. :) So yay me, when I go back next Saturday, I'mon get me some good stuff! I was supposed to go back before they closed to pick up some stuff but I was late getting started on the cupcakes I was supposed to ice for the wedding we were scheduled to work that evening (Jason and I).

Which brings me to my next adventure...

Some of you may know that I used to have a baking business (called Fancy Pants Goodies - you can still visit my website). When I had my son Noah, I realized that continuing to take on as much business was only going to make me crazier, so I kinda quit. I sold all my equipment and made some much needed money, and that was that. Well, lately I've been taking on a little side work. I iced 11 dozen cupcakes for a wedding this Saturday night. It was an INCREDIBLE wedding! Jason and I also washed dishes for four hours for this wedding to make some extra side money. It was tough, but we were thankful for the opportunity. And of course, the wedding was AWESOME! I didn't take enough pics but I did take a couple... The wedding itself was in a pasture under big old oak tree (overlooking a lake)... the reception was in a barn, and the band was PHE-NOM-E-NAL! I wanted to go shake a tail-feather SOOO badly! Alas, there were dishes to wash and children to get home to. How I wish I had taken some pictures while we were washing dishes... but oh well. At least I got to look out the window onto a beautiful green pasture while I was washing. :) We washed about 300 glass plates, and all the serving dishes for food for 350 people... with some help towards the end. Dear God it was tough, but we made some money and that was good.

Oh I forgot to add.. I dyed my hair the night before... as close to my natural color as possible. I'm growing it out again. Why oh why did I ever cut it. UGH! It looks dark now, but really, my natural color is about this dark.

Sunday was fun... went to church, and then in the afternoon when the kids were napping, Jason "let" me run out kid-less yet again down to Park Avenue Thrift since they give coupons to shoppers on Sundays to return to get 50% off on the following Sunday... well, I reckon I stocked up on some great vintage finds. One great thing I found was a vintage Astra toaster by Toastmaster. I posted a few photos of some other great finds as a sneak peak to my new inventory... I'm excited! Oh yeah, and sweet Bekah over at mylittleloves sent me a package... and to my delight it was this dress she'd had on her "shop my closet" page that I'd been lusting after. So sweet of her to bless me like that! Here's a not so great pic of me in it, and all the laundry I had in bags to put away behind me... hee hee!

On Monday morning one of the first things I did after getting all three kiddos settled in for breakfast was set to cleaning and restoring the toaster. It's totally chrome and needed some de-greasing and scraping of some stuff but when it was done my my it was oh so pretty.

Goo Gone ... that's the ticket.

NASTY.

gross...

Here are a few other neat things I picked up...

This stuff and other items will be up for sale on my etsy shop shortly!

Well, I reckon that's it for now. I'll be back tomorrow!
