Saturday morning started off rather sweetly. We don't really have a post office nearby, so the local Mom and Pop pharmacy in downtown Woodstock, called Woodstock Pharmacy, serves as my post office for shipping all the fun vintage stuff from my etsy shop. The cool thing for me is that the shared parking lot is behind the row of downtown stores, and since I enter and exit the back door, I have a good excuse to venture across the parking lot to the little itty bitty thrift store in the basement of the Woodstock United Methodist Church, which is only open on Saturdays. Last week I had to shop something on Thursday, and on the one time per month that they're open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, I found them. And I found a TON of stuff for NOTHING! It was like a gold mine... we're talking vintage sewing patterns for $.25 each, vintage linens and clothing for not more than a dollar... super awesome, and run by some super nice old ladies who really didn't realize that the old stuff they have was of value to me. So this Saturday, I'd convinced the hubby to let me leave the kids at home while I stepped out to mail my package... and the doors were open to the thrift store, so I took advantage of the time I had and went shopping. Among some of the veerry interesting finds was a Kodak Instamatic camera in perfect condition, still new in box, and an antique tea set that after some investigation I found was worth significantly more than what they asked for it. :) So yay me, when I go back next Saturday, I'mon get me some good stuff! I was supposed to go back before they closed to pick up some stuff but I was late getting started on the cupcakes I was supposed to ice for the wedding we were scheduled to work that evening (Jason and I).
Which brings me to my next adventure...
Some of you may know that I used to have a baking business (called Fancy Pants Goodies - you can still visit my website). When I had my son Noah, I realized that continuing to take on as much business was only going to make me crazier, so I kinda quit. I sold all my equipment and made some much needed money, and that was that. Well, lately I've been taking on a little side work. I iced 11 dozen cupcakes for a wedding this Saturday night. It was an INCREDIBLE wedding! Jason and I also washed dishes for four hours for this wedding to make some extra side money. It was tough, but we were thankful for the opportunity. And of course, the wedding was AWESOME! I didn't take enough pics but I did take a couple... The wedding itself was in a pasture under big old oak tree (overlooking a lake)... the reception was in a barn, and the band was PHE-NOM-E-NAL! I wanted to go shake a tail-feather SOOO badly! Alas, there were dishes to wash and children to get home to. How I wish I had taken some pictures while we were washing dishes... but oh well. At least I got to look out the window onto a beautiful green pasture while I was washing. :) We washed about 300 glass plates, and all the serving dishes for food for 350 people... with some help towards the end. Dear God it was tough, but we made some money and that was good.
Sunday was fun... went to church, and then in the afternoon when the kids were napping, Jason "let" me run out kid-less yet again down to Park Avenue Thrift since they give coupons to shoppers on Sundays to return to get 50% off on the following Sunday... well, I reckon I stocked up on some great vintage finds. One great thing I found was a vintage Astra toaster by Toastmaster. I posted a few photos of some other great finds as a sneak peak to my new inventory... I'm excited! Oh yeah, and sweet Bekah over at mylittleloves sent me a package... and to my delight it was this dress she'd had on her "shop my closet" page that I'd been lusting after. So sweet of her to bless me like that! Here's a not so great pic of me in it, and all the laundry I had in bags to put away behind me... hee hee!
On Monday morning one of the first things I did after getting all three kiddos settled in for breakfast was set to cleaning and restoring the toaster. It's totally chrome and needed some de-greasing and scraping of some stuff but when it was done my my it was oh so pretty.
Goo Gone ... that's the ticket. |
