the story behind the name of this blog (my first vlog)

Okay y'all, so I have probably broken all the rules of vlogging, blogging, whatevs, by putting up a 12 minute video for this post, but I guess I don't care... you can watch it or not! But, ya know, I'd love for you to watch it, otherwise I wouldn't have posted it! :)

This is the story behind the name of my blog. I hope you'll find something in it for your heart, your mind and your spirit.

Much love!

Brooke

  1. What a great video, I really enjoyed it. My question for you is: did you seek out a relationship with God or did He find you first?? I am interested in strengthening this relationship but I have absolutely no idea how. I would love to experience what you said you felt in the car listening to that music, but I have not the slightest idea as to how to get to that place. I am always jealous of people like you that seem to be filled with His love! I don't know how to get there! Thanks in advance : )

    1. Chelsea, that is a great question!!! Well, let me start by saying that I grew up in a "Christian home"... meaning, from the beginning of my consciousness I have been aware of God, and taught about "having a relationship with God". I want to say that from a very young age, I was very conscious that he was real, not because I believed hard enough, but because I could FEEL him near me. It wasn't like a tingly, weird feeling, it was a warmth and tenderness that would well up in my heart. It never had anything to do with any intentional act of mine (ie, nothing religious or methodical), other than acknowledging him and singing to him and loving on him.

What I feel inclined to tell you is that the entire story of Jesus is not about man elevating himself to be like God to come into relationship with God, but Jesus (who is God) lowered himself to become a man, limited to man's physical limitations... he even came so scandalously - his mother was pregnant before marriage, and the social/religious order of the day would have called for her stoning except for the grace of Joseph, who also had an encounter with God, which is the only thing that saved Mary's life - he was SURE she was telling the truth, and they left all they knew to protect her life and Jesus inside her belly... Jesus was considered a bastard child, lived in poverty, his whole life was humility. So he came, but he came so lowly... The message I want you to hear is that Jesus is HERE. He has come, he is present, his Spirit is available to you right at this moment. There is nothing that you have to do to "get to that place". What I would suggest is that you just start talking to Him... tell him how you feel, tell him that you want to know him and experience his love and his presence. Tell him to open your eyes to him working in your life right now... tell him to reveal himself and him working in your life right now. You can ask him for anything... I would really suggest journaling, and if you need some music to help you to focus your attention on him, I can help you with that. All you have to do is open yourself up to Him and just as with any relationship... talk to him, spend time with him.

He is seeking you out and he loves you. It doesn't mean that I don't struggle with knowing that he loves me - there is a whole 'nother level of encounter with him that I need to open myself up to. I really feel him challenging me to another level of surrender. But he is always there and ready to receive me, and has so much grace for me. He is so good. I pray you find that.

  3. Brooke, I stumbled upon your blog through skunkboy and just happened to look through and watch this video. The moment I saw the name of the blog, I knew Psalm 91 must have something to do with it. As this is one of my go-to passages, and after watching this, my heart felt an immediate connection with you. I love hearing about the works of The One who knows our every thought, word, and deed and the way He molds us. So, thanks for sharing, it made my heart smile.

    1. Nicole - thanks so so much! First of all, it means so much to me that you would take the time to watch. Secondly, for me, blogging has been about connecting with others... that has proven to be the most valuable thing about it. For us to have connected is eternal and it means the world to me and makes my heart glad! Thanks for taking the time to comment! <3 with love... Brooke
