up a mountain and down again

Bear and I took a jaunt up Kennesaw Mountain. It's a great workout and the reward is a great 360 degree view of the Atlanta area and beyond. It's not the first time I've done this and I plan to do it regularly... I need to do this regularly - keeps my head clear. The climb is slow and steady and the descent is just full of peace... no striving, just enjoying the way down. The park is FULL of trails that link up and you could do as much as a 10 mile hike just inside the park (or longer). Totally beautiful and totally a wonderful escape for my head. Today was rainy so I didn't get out, but hoping for good weather next week.

Just something to note... Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is somewhere I frequent not only because of it's natural beauty but for it's history. It was the site of a pivotal number of battles during the Civil War. I believe Sherman said if he could take Kennesaw Mountain, he could take Atlanta. And he did. I am a history nerd and I often imagine myself in the midst of a battle... the cannon fire and gunsmoke, the men fighting and dying... there is a lot of spiritual stuff tied to the land and it's hard to forget when you're there. Hard to believe such a place of death is now such a place of peace for me... and has been for many years... all the way back to my childhood.

Enjoy the photos. :o) and Happy Weekend.

  3. I love this.

You and I are a lot alike. I've struggled with depression - and something about my genetic makeup makes me decidedly NOT a city girl, though I'm currently in the city now - and getting outdoors, and away from it all, is the only cure, sometimes.

I love the picture with your headband.

  4. I want to go there! We have nothing like that where I live in Minnesota. It's beautiful and must be a wonderful thing to do with your son. I love history too :)
